VF-1S Valkyrie - Hasegawa 1/72

My second Macross kit...that i've finished in modern times. Technically it's probably my 4th or 5th.. I built a few Macross models when I was a kid, when I only knew it as Robotech, but those were destroyed long ago. In more recent times, I built this same kit as Max's VF-1A version, but my cat destroyed it... Back to today.

I've always wondered what the Valkyrie would look like in a grey paint scheme instead of the usual white, and voila. Here we have it. Roy Focker's VF-1S.

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, although it's not perfect. It's pretty much an airplane model in this form, and I haven't built many aircraft models after all, so it was probably a learning experience as well. I've also never built an aircraft model in flight, so I had to figure that out too. I used a standard acrylic rod and drilled a hole in the gun pod, reinforced from the inside with some epoxy putty. I wanted to do something special for the base, so I found some old lineart and added it to the movie version logo, created with Adobe Illustrator. I think it worked pretty well.

My friend donated a pilot figure, painted in the movie version scheme and that was all I needed to finish up this sweet Valkyrie. These Hasegawa kits are addicting. I've since built another Battroid, which i'll add to the site in the near future and intend to build another to finish off the Vermillion squad...and maybe more if I can make time. I think suckers like me is why they made so many different versions of the mecha in the show.. darn it..
